There’s plenty to do on Bonaire. How about surfing, kite boarding, sailing, mountain biking, fishing, snorkeling and diving? But also in the cultural field you can find some interesting activities.

Kayaking

Highly recommended is a kayak tour through the protected mangrove forests of Bonaire. This is possible only with a guide. The mangrove forest is a labyrinth of narrow streams, which you can sail through in a kayak. Sometimes it is so narrow that you can no longer paddle, but you have to drag the kayak by grabbing branches.

Our guide told frankly about the mangrove and its inhabitants. He also picked up an “upside-down jellyfish” from the water (see picture), which was a painful affair. Halfway through the tour there’s a stop so that you can do some snorkeling and take a closer look at the underwater world. Read more

Kitesurfing

Kitesurfers find a true paradise on Bonaire. The steady trade winds and the pleasant water temperature are the ideal combination for kitesurfing. For kitesurfing at Bonaire the months February to August are the most suitable. In these months an average wind speed of sixteen knots is measured with a maximum of thirty knots.

Surfing

Lac Bay is ideally the best place to learn surfing. The water is only one meter deep and it has a delightful temperature. There is one (child friendly) diving center where you can take surfing lessons at every level and where you can rent all you need for surfing. Read more

Mountain biking

Want something other than water? Rent a mountain bike. Bonaire possesses over 300 km of dirt roads, ideal for exploring the island by bicycle. Also the National Park Washington - Slagbaai is definitely worth visiting with a mountain bike. There are tracks from 5 to 30 kilometers, with or without a guide.

Visit The Cadushy Distillery

In a traditional distillery of Cadushy you can see how the world's only liqueur made from cactus is created right on the premises, and of course, you're invited to sample some for yourself!

Come and relax in a tranquil, shaded garden under an ancient Calbas trees to enjoy a variety of home-distilled liqueurs including the famous Cadushy of Bonaire Liqueur. You will most likely see other native visitors join you as well like colorful lora parrots, brilliant hummingbirds and comical iguanas. They are attracted by the brilliant garden blossoms, but some say they would also like to join you for a drink! There's also a small children's playground to keep your young ones entertained while you relax and enjoy your tour around the Cadushy Distillery and the Bonaire Heritage Center.
