Chogogo Beach is located on the midwest side of Bonaire. The center of Kralendijk is less than a kilometer away from Chogogo Beach. The distance between Flamingo Airport Bonaire and the beach is about six kilometers. Directly opposite Chogogo Beach is Klein Bonaire. The name Chogogo Beach refers to the typical nasal sound made by Caribbean flamingos: 'cho-go-go' 'cho-go-go'. The Caribbean flamingo is the icon of the Leeward Island; its image can be found everywhere there.

Chogogo Beach is a beautiful sandy beach and is part of the Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Bonaire. This beach is adorned with numerous palm trees that on one hand provide an ultimate tropical atmosphere and on the other hand create pleasant shaded areas. The beach offers excellent facilities. We enjoyed delicious cocktails at the beach bar and the food is outstanding.

Chogogo Beach.
Snorkelers and divers are in for a treat at Chogogo Beach. Right in front of the beach lies one of the most beautiful dive sites on the island: Bari Reef. In terms of biodiversity, Bari Reef is unmatched within the Caribbean archipelago. The drop-off is not far from the beach, located at a depth of between twenty-five and thirty meters, gradually transitioning to a sandy bottom at a depth of one hundred and thirty meters. It seems as if all conceivable Caribbean creatures have gathered at Bari Reef. From the most colorful coral fish to prehistoric-looking sea turtles.

Directly opposite Chogogo Beach is the tiny island of Klein Bonaire. The beaches and reefs of this coral island are of unprecedented beauty, making Klein Bonaire very popular among beach and diving enthusiasts. Klein Bonaire is now uninhabited but that was not always the case. Archaeological research conducted in 2020, led by Konrad A. Antczak, a Venezuelan-Polish archaeologist, shows that there was significant activity on Klein Bonaire in the 18th century.
No Name Beach Klein Bonaire.
In the 17th and 18th centuries there was significant trade between Bonaire and Curaçao on one side and the Spanish colony of Venezuela on the other. Formally this trade was illegal because Spain held the trade monopoly and issued many restrictions. However, the Spanish colonists failed to provide the Venezuelan coast with sufficient essential goods, which encouraged smuggling.
The excavations that Antczak conducted on Klein Bonaire revealed that there was a camp for the managers of the goods storage. The ruins of this warehouse are still present on the island. Among the numerous finds were shoe buckles, pewter spoons, coins, weapon fragments, and cannonballs. In addition a lot of Creole pottery such as cooking pots were uncovered. These findings provide a nice insight into the daily life in the camp during the first half of the 18th century. Today, Klein Bonaire is thankfully a protected area and falls under the Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP). Therefore, no human construction activities will ever take place again on this vulnerable island.
